A short excerpt from a Bearing

One section from a sample in-depth Bearing, in the words and style of the full version.

Rae is fictional. The sample answers are invented; “you” below refers to Rae, not to you.

From Rae’s section on Directness

Saying the thing

Directness is about how much of what you mean makes it into the words you actually use. It is not the same as being blunt, and it is not the same as being honest — plenty of indirect people are scrupulously honest and simply leave the point implied.

Where you sit on this shapes what the other person has to do to understand you. The further toward "spell it out" you sit, the less interpretive work you hand them — and the more your words can land harder than you meant. The further toward "leave room" you sit, the gentler the delivery and the more room there is for them to hear something you never said.

Yours sits toward the spell-it-out end. The people who find you easy to read are not guessing, and that is worth something. Check the landing rather than the wording: the same clear sentence can arrive as relief or as a verdict depending on what the other person expected.

This is only a short excerpt. A full in-depth Bearing covers every area the assessment can support and offers more than one thing to try.
