About Mukai Institute

Christine Mukai founded a small company making tools for people trying to understand their relationships.

Christine Mukai

Founder, Mukai Institute

For almost 30 years, I’ve sat with people as a licensed clinical social worker, and if there’s one thing my work has taught me, it’s this: our relationships are what hold us together. They’re also more fragile than we like to admit.

I’ve watched relationships end with a sudden cutoff. More often, I’ve watched them simply drift: a call that doesn’t get returned, a hard conversation that keeps getting put off, until one day the distance feels too wide to cross. And lately, I’m seeing it happen more and more.

What I know is that communication is how relationships grow and unfold. Every relationship has its difficult moments, and those moments don’t have to be the end of the story. Often they’re where real connection begins.

That’s why I created this app. I wanted to give people a simple, encouraging way to reach toward one another, to stay engaged even when it feels awkward or hard, and to remember that the people in our lives are worth the effort.

I hope it helps you hold on to the relationships that matter most to you.

The Parallax Assessment

I created the Parallax Assessment because of something I’ve seen again and again in my work: two people can describe the same relationship with complete honesty and still be seeing different things. Neither one is wrong. They’re simply standing in different places.

This assessment gives you a private space to reflect on your own way of connecting: what you need, how you reach out, and what you might be bringing to the relationship without realizing it. My hope is that understanding your own view helps you see the other person’s a little more clearly too.

A separate kind of work

The Institute is separate from any clinical practice. Using its products does not make you a client.

The assessment has not been clinically validated, is not diagnostic and cannot replace professional care. If you need support, talk with a professional who can help.
